Library

The Hun School Library is equipped to meet the informational needs of the entire Hun School community. The Library staff will do everything possible to help you. We have many tools to assist us; a collection of 45,000 books, the Internet, hundreds of periodicals and newspapers, microfiche, maps, databases, online subscription services, and more. We use faxes, phones, delivery services, access cards to other libraries, all to assist you in completing the assignment or answering the question.

Stop in today and meet the librarians. They are available any time they are not teaching a class and ready to work with you as you determine a research strategy, find focus on a topic, identify appropriate resources or just pick out a good book.

You will often see these words printed on library materials “Visit us first, on every assignment, we can help you to do your very best.” This is a promise we do not take lightly.

Located in the center of the Paul R. Chesebro Academic Center, the Library and Media Center serves the needs of both the Middle and Upper Schools. Its rich resources allow for the pursuit of academic interests as well as areas for quiet reading and reflection.

A collection of 45,000 volumes, more than 40 electronic databases, several hundred CD ROMs, two hundred periodical subscriptions, a video collection of over 2,000 VCR tapes, and five daily newspapers provide the foundation to meet all informational needs.

Library sessions, planned by both classroom teachers and media specialists, are held in the library. These classes are team-taught and always relate directly to the curriculum being taught at that time. Information seeking and critical thinking skills are interwoven with curriculum content to enable students to use the resources and technology. Students have multiple opportunities to master the sources and searching techniques because they utilize the library for all academic disciplines. Hundreds of classes were held in the facility last year, a multitude of reference questions answered, and many readers advisory recommendations provided.

The technological hub of the library is an NT network hosting the EOSi electronic card catalogue. Thirty-two CD ROM databases and fourteen online products provide resources for periodical and newspaper research. Two hundred magazine subscriptions support these databases to provide access to full text articles, as well as a collection of 30,000 microfiche. Many of the sources provide full text directly from the CD ROMs or websites. A microfiche reader and printer enables students to make paper copies from the microfiche.

The Internet may be searched from all computers in the library.

Services are further extended through the use of Inter Library Loan using a database of public and academic libraries from all over the United States. A delivery service provides courier service three days a week linking The Hun School Library with all other libraries (public, academic, school, and special) in the state. Most interlibrary loan requests that can be filled by New Jersey libraries are received within three days.

Resident students may obtain a library card at the Princeton Public Library. Faculty and students have use of an access card to the Princeton Firestone Library on the Princeton University campus.

Come in soon, you will be comfortable in our facility. We have sunlit floor to ceiling windows, study carrels, soft seating to settle into with a book, pods of computers for research, a quiet study room, and helpful librarians to assist as you answer your questions. Relax with a magazine, complete assignments, or just browse.
