Financial Aid
Philosophy
Since its founding in 1914, The Hun School has been committed to making its educational opportunities available to students without regard to the financial resources to their families. The Hun School Financial Aid Program provides assistance to students and parents with a demonstrated need. It remains a high priority at the School, bringing both variety and talent to the student body. The School seeks racial, cultural and religious diversity in the student body, believing that diversity allows for the enrichments which result from shared experiences, providing understanding and appreciation of others.
A student is admitted to The Hun School without regard to the family's financial circumstances. Once a student has been accepted for admission, financial aid is determined on the basis of demonstrated need and the amount of financial aid available. Since more students apply and demonstrate a need than the School can assist, a student's academic and extracurricular activities are also considered in the evaluation process.
All aid is awarded on a yearly basis. It is continued each subsequent year if the family's financial statement indicates continued need and if the student remains in good standing in all aspects of school life.
Applying for Financial Aid
The Hun School grants financial assistance in accordance with the principals established by the National Association of Independent Schools and administered by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS). Decisions of financial aid are made by The Hun School's Financial Aid Committee and based on an analysis of the Parent Financial Statement (PFS) provided by the School and Student Service. A copy of the family's most recent IRS 1040 form and all supporting schedules must also be submitted before a decision on financial aid can be made.
It is important that families follow the schedule below to ensure that aid requests are processed as early as possible:
- Be sure you have begun or completed all the required elements of the admissions process.
- By February 1st, mail the completed Parent Financial Statement to School and Student Service, CN6657, Princeton, New Jersey 08541. For information about the PFS or to fill out the form online, visit SSS. Mail the postage-paid postcard to the Admissions Office indicating the date that you submitted the PFS.
- By February 15th, mail the copy of the parents' latest IRS 1040 form, along with supporting schedules, directly to the Financial Aid Office at The Hun School.
Financial aid decisions will be included with the March 10th letters of acceptance and reenrollment. It is important to meet deadlines since the School does not hold funds in reserve for those who apply late or fail to meet the designated schedule. Even if your tax form cannot be submitted by February 15th, the Parent Financial Statement must be submitted by February 1st to guarantee consideration for aid in the initial round.
