A Day in the Life

  • 7:15 a.m. Breakfast in the Dining Hall.

Start your day off right; enjoy your breakfast in our dining hall. You’ll find hot food, cooked to order, as well as cold cereals and fruit.

  • 8:00 a.m.–2:30 p.m. Academic Classes.

    Classes

Math, history, science, English, French, ceramics—you could take any combination of classes at The Hun School. We operate on a rotating schedule; but each of your classes (except for health) will meet five days a week. Science classes have labs, which take two periods one time every week.

  • 10:15–10:45 a.m. Activities Period.

Every day, there is something different during Activities. On Mondays, we always have an all-School assembly or announcements via HUN TV. On Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, various clubs and organizations will hold meetings. On Fridays, all students meet with their Advisor Groups.

  • Lunch

    Dining Hall

Although your schedule rotates, you will have lunch at the same time with the same group of students every day. Enjoy a hot entrée or make your own lunch at our salad bar. Be sure to check what’s for dessert!

  • 2:30–3:15 p.m. Extra Help.

    Extra Help

One of the greatest things about The Hun School is how approachable the teachers are. Every afternoon, they make time for students who have questions or need some help to get ahead in class. You can drop in on your teachers during this time. With so many teachers living on campus, it’s easy to schedule extra help sessions at other times in the day as well.

  • 3:30–5:30 p.m. Sports, Intramurals, and Drama Practice.

    Sports, Theater, etc.

As a Hun School student, you must participate in at least two seasons of an afternoon activity. Check our Athletics page to see what sports are offered, or read about our theatre program. We put on three plays each year; typically a comedy in the fall, a musical in the winter, and a drama in the spring. If you aren’t into sports or theatre, you can join our Intramural Program after school, and do a little bit of everything.

  • 5:45–6:45p.m. Dinner.

    Dinner and Dorm Life

Back to the dining hall. Dinner is served buffet style just like breakfast and lunch. This is a great time to catch up with friends and see how they spent their day. Dinner is also a chance to get to know some faculty members you might not have for class.

  • 7:45–9:45 p.m. Study Hall.

    Study Hall

This is a two-hour period where you must be working. Teachers and student proctors are on duty in the dorms to answer any questions, and to offer support. Typically, Hun School students have two and a half to three hours of work, so you will get the bulk of it done during Study Hall, but you must learn to use your time wisely. As a new ninth or tenth grader, you’ll have Study Hall in the library until your first marking period grades come out. At that time, you may earn the privilege to study in your room at night. The library and computer lab are open and supervised during Study Hall hours, so you may bring your books and get work done there.

  • 9:45–10:15 p.m. Break!

    Break

You’ll need this break after a long day. Now, you can head to one of our lounges to catch up with your friends in other dorms, or get something to eat. It’s also a good time to call your parents and friends, or write a letter home.

  • 10:30 p.m. In Rooms.

    In Rooms

We ask you to be ready for bed and in your room at 10:30. At this time, you and your roommate can finish up any homework, catch up on the day, and get ready for the next day.

    11:00 p.m. Lights Out.

The Teacher On Duty will make sure that you’re ready for bed at 11:00 p.m. You may request “late lights” during study hall if you find that you have extra homework.
